What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation utilises either a prosthetic breast implant – usually made from silicone or a fat transfer from other parts of the body – to increase the size of your breasts. It’s an excellent procedure to restore breast volume after weight loss or pregnancy. When performed by a highly-skilled plastic surgeon, such as Mr Netri, breast augmentation surgery can increase the fullness of your breasts, improving the proportions and balance of your figure. In turn, this gives our patients a new sense of self-confidence and wellbeing.

See yourself in 3D before choosing breast surgery

Mr Netri uses Crisalix virtual aesthetic technology to help his patients see the result of breast augmentation. Am I suitable for breast augmentation surgery?

Most people can have breast augmentation surgery, providing they are over 18 years of age and not pregnant. However, before any surgical procedure can take place, Mr Netri will conduct a one-on-one consultation with you. During this session, he will discuss your concerns and expectations from surgery. In addition, he will also discuss your medical history to determine whether you are suitable for breast augmentation surgery.

What happens during breast augmentation surgery?

For a breast augmentation procedure, we use general anaesthetic (in a hospital setting). This means you will be unconscious throughout your surgery. During the procedure, a small surgical incision will be made under your breast. Depending on your anatomy, Mr Netri will expertly place an implant behind your breast muscle (submuscular pocket) or in front of the muscle, between the breast and the muscle (subglandular pocket). He may also choose to place the implant partially behind the muscle (dual plane pocket). After your procedure, you’ll receive tailored aftercare to ensure an optimum recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a breast augmentation help drooping breasts?

If you are experiencing drooping breasts due to the natural ageing process, breast feeding, weight loss or illness, we recommend a breast uplift, as breast augmentation surgery alone, will not lift your breasts.

Are there any risks with breast augmentation surgery?

As with any surgical procedure there are always some risks with breast augmentation. However, they are extremely unlikely here at Netri Cosmetic Surgery as he is on the of the most highly-skilled and extensively experienced plastic surgeons in his field. Any risks associated with a general anaesthetic or indeed, the procedure itself, will be explained to you in detail, in your initial consultation. You will also be requested to sign a consent form prior to your surgery, to confirm that you have been explained all potential risks, however unlikely and that you understand them and have decided to proceed, with this knowledge.

Potential risks with a surgical breast augmentation can include:

  • Complications with the anaesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Seroma (fluid accumulation)
  • Infection, post-surgery
  • Uneven scarring
  • Malpositioning of the implant – meaning revision surgery is required
  • Thickening of the scar around the implant which is known as capsular contracture
  • Changes or a reduction / loss of sensitivity of nipples and the breasts
  • Rippling of the skin over the implant
  • Persistent pain or discomfort
  • Implant rupture or leakage
  • Revision of surgery to replace breast implants that have changed the shape of the breast or do not suit the body shape after a number of years.

Are there factors that can affect a breast surgery?

Some lifestyle choices such as smoking, excessive exercise, if you have had children or had any illnesses can affect the breast augmentation surgery in various ways. Your breast implants are as unique as you and it is not realistic to compare your results to any of your friends, colleagues or celebrities in the media. It’s important to remember than any before and after images that Mr Netri shows you in your consultation are an indication of the kind of work he can achieve and your results can be significantly different from any images you are shown.

Factors to consider:

  • If you smoke, you may not be able to have surgery and will need to cease smoking prior to any operation.
  • If you are unable to recover and take time off work, a breast augmentation operation will not be recommended.
  • There is a limit to the size of implant that Mr Netri can be use and cup size cannot be guaranteed.
  • The same implant will offer different results in size for you, compared to others.
  • There is a possibility that previous asymmetry, shape and position of the nipple can become more apparent after a breast augmentation.
  • The angle of which your nipples face (outwards or inwards) will not change after a breast augmentation.

Which breast implants does Mr Netri use?

At Netri Cosmetic Surgery, we only use the very best, proven and FDA approved implants. Therefore, Mr Netri offers the full range of Mentor or Motiva Silicone implants.

What is fat transfer for breast augmentation?

This is where a liposuction technique is implemented, to take fat from another part of your body and inject it into the breast.

Fat transfer is a great option for patients who only require a small increase in breast size and volume, require a very natural look or don’t feel happy to use a breast implant.

For patients that have had breast implants previously and want or need to have them removed, fat transfer augmentation is also a superb option.

How much does breast augmentation cost?

On average, the cost for a straightforward breast augmentation starts at £5,500. However, the prices can vary, depending upon facility and implant selected.
